Below are a couple of watercolor works from my college years, way back in the 1990s…

Both of the above works are fairly cliché. The Walking on Water work was done as a part of an introduction to typography class, and the Vampire work was done an experimental work exploring salt’s effects on watercolor paintings. The Vampire work was inspired by expersionistic works such as those created by Edward Munch.
Although If I Could Walk on Water was not the greatest artwork in the world, it became a significant part of my college career as it was the last work I turned in to the Typography teacher before deciding that going in to the graphic design was not my cup of tea, and that I wanted to REALLY go in to painting instead of graphic design. I dropped the typography class, which was the first intro class in to the graphic design upper level classes the day after this work was turned in, 5 minutes before the window at the office closed at 5 PM, which happened to just be the very last day that we were allowed to drop classes that semester. The following Semesters I started taking upper level painting classes, spending hundreds of hours, and many all nighters in the painting studio creating some of the works you see on this very blog…
I don’t regret dropping out of graphic design as a major back then at all because back then Photoshop was at version 3 or 4, and I’m glad I didn’t spend my college tuition learning software like that that would become outdated the next year when a newer version came out. Instead I spent the tuition money and my time learning ancient tools and techniques that will never become outdated.
