overpriced kadee stuff…

ok, kadee does have a 9.00 shipping option.. 13 of these things and one #206 height gauge is 86.26 on kadee’s site… 86.26+9=95.26… so maybe it’s cheaper to go with bulk orders?

the 12 option (max 12) for the walmart thing is 134.16 (11.18 each)

Kadee’s price is 5.99+shipping and the gauge is 8.39…

https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/37293907 134 bucks for 12 of these kadee things.. geesh! entire train set is probably around same cost. https://www.walmart.com/ip/seort/28940598 is same thing but without the attaching it to the frame parts… need those or need to figure out some other solution… hmm…

price on kadee’s website is more since it’s 14 bucks or more for just shipping costs. Walmart has free shipping…

plywood fun

got plywood today…. blasted lumber yard got me 3/8 inch instead of 1/4 inch, and this thing is very thin and bendy/fragile…. made it work by stacking the old stack shelves up 3 high on top rung to flatten it out… sprayed down the bottom with water just now and laid a ton of books, a hammer or three, and a couple of loaded tool boxes on top to hopefully fix the warping. we’ll see. Order placed recently for the slot cars… hopefully we’ll be up and running on them soon. Work gave me a employee appreciation 20 bucks on Amazon so spent that on some tiny 1/87th scale figures for the train table – cheapest thing I could find on Amazon related to this hobby with shipping, etc. Finally got a couple of them the other day… so tiny… Takes forever for delivery from China, lol. Slowly moving along… This thin plywood isn’t going to take staples the way I wanted it to if it was 1/4 inch or 1/2 inch so ugh…. we’ll figure out something else for the borders if there will be any at all.

bah, just get scoobie and foget the 39… darn indy cars cannot do loops.

If you own the Tomy AFX Super International Racing Set and are thinking about building a permanent HO race track this is an inexpensive layout to construct. Just add a dozen 15″ straights and you’ll have an excellent raceway. The circuit is comprised of three fast straights with a technically challenging infield section.

The table below lists the Tomy AFX track sections required to build the International 39 raceway:
(24) – 15″ Straights (2)  – 9″ Straights (8)  – 6″ Straights (6)  – 3″ Straights

(2) – 15″ Power Tracks(2) – 22 VDC Power Packs(4) – Tomy AFX Hand Controls

brookfield may be the way to go… now just got to recalculate.

Brookfield 50
This next layout also fits on a single 4×8 sheet of plywood and provides a 51 foot 2-lane raceway. Unlike the River Hills 50 and Caledonia 33, this layout was designed as a flat race track. Several long, fast straights combined with a technical infield section make this an excellent 2-lane road course. The large open area inside of the 180º turn provides ample room for pits and a paddock.

Parts:

Autoworld Scoobie Doo Meets Batman & Robin 18′ HO Slot Car Set

Autoworld Top Fuel Dragstar Return Loop

8 packs of 2 AFX Curve 6″ 1/8 circle ho slot car track section (2 per pack)

1 afx stright 3″ ho slot car section pair (2 per pack)

3 afx stright 6″ ho track section pairs (2 per pack)

I’ll probably swap out one of the 9 inchers with an autoworld 9″ jump track and another with the 9: autoworld lap counter track…

adding in the afx 1968 black flame car since it’s cool and Katrina likes it, 100 track clips, afx track barrier, afx stocker two pack, and a yellow autoworld jeep we are looking at around 530 bucks on rc superstore. It’d be a lot cheaper to do the joysways or goldenbright stuff on walmart but that stuff just looks like toys and is sort of newer versions of ninco or artin type track so is likely not too reliable and it’s all bigger than afx stuff, so it’s not got a lot of expansion possibilities…

p.s. the batman meets scoobie movies (two episodes that run about an hour and a half) can be found in a few places online and in stores… It’s a 2020 or so release remake of 1972 cartoons…

I think I may do a couple of variations of this now that I know more about what I’m doing in the track planner thing.

HERE WE GO!

Scoobie meets Batman +

still need to think this through a bit… it’s over 8 foot long… need it to fit on 8×4 foot plywood panel if possible since we only have a limited amount of room to play with.

Messing around with Ultimate Racer 3.0 today trying to figure out how to lay out this set I’ll be putting together eventually (still waiting on Entropia Universe withdrawal since August 25. They say it takes around 50-60 business days… they take your money instantly but make you wait months to get it back)….

Auto World Scooby Doo Meets Batman & Robin 18′ HO Slot Car Set

will add in AFX HO Slot Car Track Race Barriers – 3x 31-Inch Sections and a few extra cars…

==========

oh, and important add in:

Auto World HO Slot Car Intersection Track Piece – AFX Compatible – that makes the lower left side sort of take on the Carrera on to the Podium set’s type of shape with the intersection loop… Wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get the 12 inch loop pieces in there but this makes it work pretty easy…

—- also. ..

adding in a 3″ and 6″ straight since I think I’m going to need them… at least one of each, I think, but it’s hard to guesstimate since loop icon is guesstimate in this image… may add 2 just for good measure. I know the loop’s intersection does require one three inch to span width of the loop… but not but not sure on exact math on the rest of it… Hopefully this diagram will help me make this build easier than the HO Track build was where I was just eyeballing everything, staring at a huge pile of old track and getting frustrated with all the different sizes, shapes, diameter, etc.

4′ × 8′ Raceways – 2-Lane

This next group of raceways can also be built on a single 4×8 foot table. These layouts however are 2-lane racetracks. See the Tables page for building instructions.

River Hills 50
This next layout fits on a single 4×8 sheet of plywood and provides a 52 foot 2-lane raceway suitable for landscaping. Several long, fast straights combined with a twisty infield section make this an excellent 2-lane raceway. The overpass incorporated into this design provides a means of folding the raceway back in upon itself, and in the process provides additional long straights.

(5) – 15″ Radius 1/8 Turns
(4) – 12″ Radius 1/8 Turns
(17) – 9″ Radius 1/8 Turns
(6) – 6″ Radius 1/8 Turns

Caledonia 33
This next 2-lane layout makes exclusive use of the 9″ radius turns found in many 2-lane sets. The diagonal orientation of the main straight makes it possible to create a longer straight than would be possible if the track were aligned squarely with the edges of the table.

This layout can be built on a 4×8 foot table and offers a good deal of open space for landscaping.

This layout design uses the model railroading technique of laying track so that it never runs parallel to the edge of the table. This method provides a track that appears larger then it really is and avoids a static appearance. This is an ideal track for detailed landscaping and would be a good choice for someone wanting a 2-lane track to race both modern and vintage Aurora slot cars.

Whitewater Farms 65
This next layout packs a lap length of just over 65 feet on to a single 4×8 foot plywood table. Several fast straights on the outer portion of the circuit are joined using wide 15″ radius turn sections. The interior of the race course provides progressively tighter turns.

Note the location of the driver’s stations in this design. Their placement along the fastest straight on the left edge of the table provides an unobstructed view of the infield underpasses. See the Construction section for detailed photographs of the table building process.

Viper, BSRT and Wizzard are the next steps up or sideways on the peak as far as a USA factory made car and build

T-Jet

MG+ cost twice as much as AW because they are 4 times better.

The auto world x-traction all have a problem with the rear hubs being off center causing a wobble or bouncy car…

The thunder jets don’t have that issue ……… but autoworld is only $20….. AFX at $40 is a great deal …… viper at $60 is super high quality and insanely fast ……

MegaG+ is super fast and uses 120ohm controllers that no other magnet car uses. That super international set comes with an adjustable power supply. It also comes with a lifetime supply of 6″ radius turns, so have fun picking your $50 cars up off the floor on the lowest power setting. Also, make sure you by track clips so the track will stay together.

Correct AW is slower…FYI, they offer 3 designs of chassis. I recommend Viper Scale Racong an improved SG+…you can get them with out traction magnets. Use Lexan bodies OR use an adapter for the older AFX bodies or any AW body that fits 1.5″.

They have new Mustang, Camaro and C8 Corvette molds coming out next month. They recently released new 2 GT40 paint schemes and 2 GT40 MKIV molds as well as new color of Ford GT. Hurry before supplies run out, the after market prices for some models are crazy. There are some ’69 Mustangs and ’70 Camaros out there as well as “70 Vettes. Have fun

This looks like it’ll fall apart and have problems quickly, so may not be a good idea… I like the lego combination with the slot cars. I like the true 1:87 scale so it’s comparable with HO trains whereas other cars are 1:67 or bigger… I like that it’s cheaper than the Carrera Build N Race sets and has more ‘floor pieces’ to build around the track, but at only 5 volts dc and a new player on the block that cannot even advertise correctly (on wal-mart’s site it says it includes batteries and in same description that it is usb powered and has no batteries) it seems fluky and a bad idea in general, at least for now. Some forums I’ve read about it indicate it may be an old mold from way back in the 1960s that got reworked… and there are reasons whey stopped using it back then… too small to keep balanced… also ready that brushes fall out of it easily and are a pain to get back in since it’s rolled instead of screwed in or something…. hmm….

giant raceway

I like that it can fit in 8×4 foot space, but don’t like all of those bridges that could crash cars or be so wabbly it’ll cause connection problems, or other issues. Reviews say it’s hard to get final pieces to fit together sometimes…. It does look interesting since it’s got some interesting curvature and height vs other layouts like international 39…. also all that height might mean slotcars just fly off and go break, time for new cars… hmmm…

international plus 12 ….

for that new afx set getting ready to come out https://www.rcsuperstore.com/afx-super-cars-mega-g-set/ how many and what pieces would you need to add to it to make the 3.2×7.5 ft layout become 4 lane? I’m guessing since it’s all 9Rs you’d need several 12rs to make it work but how many exactly? Would it be same number of 12rs as there are 9rs so it’s just a loop outside or do you need extra connection pieces that are shorter to do that type of thing when it’s not just a circle but something like that that goes back the other way? Still weighing options to figure out what I’m wanting to get exactly. Really seems like that Auto world return loop thing would fit in nicely for extra for out lanes on this set, maybe with a few other pieces? https://www.rcsuperstore.com/auto-world-dragset-return…/ Still a little scared about using autoworld stuff based on what folks seem to say about warping, etc. but that really seems like it’d wrap right around that new set perfectly?… of course you’d have to add in a terminal and controllers…

  • ActiveJeff ThomannAuthoranswering my own question… I think it’s 6″ Radius 1/8 Circle that has to go on the flip side for the reverses on the 9 inchers swivels… so six of the the 12 in rounds for the convex curves plus 4 of the 6″ 1/8th curves (2 packs of them since they come in 2 per pack) for the matching concaves… equal number of straights… 5 of the 15 inch straights plus one 15 inch terminal… plus 2 controllers plus a power pack…. so real issue on supply/demand is finding terminal pieces as they seem to always be out of stock on afx terminals on rcsuperstore and on afxracing sites… so got to spluge on that and get the autoworld staging tree thing that is really meant for dragstrips but does function as a terminal…. so pricing this out on rcsuperstore with the base list price of that new set I’m coming up with total cost of around 330.00 for the new set plus extras to go around it if you use the autoworld return thing for most of the extras… which is around base price of what they are calling list price for afx international set until they do the markdowns to 280ish on rcsuperstore or walmart or whereever… not too shabby except that it uses a lot of autoworld parts to make it happen…. and you end up with roughly 15 feet of 4 lane instead of the 25 feet internationl set starts out with or the 39 feet it can do if you added 12 of the 15 inch straights… but for scenery designing and stuff this gives you a lot more table room to play with I guess… hmm… choices and decisions… decisions, decisions…. man budgeting this stuff and thinking about how layouts can fit together uses a lot of thought, lol… p.s. only videos I’ve ever seen anywhere on the 39 inch international thing (which don’t include the extra 12) is over at https://youtu.be/MvVpnH6nCm8 and https://youtu.be/9yHGD7hgmcI … do google search for international 39 for layout plans on that – it’s really just superinternational plus 12 straights… but if I calculated all of this up right on current prices at rcsuperstore that 39 inch ends up costing a lot more unless you would be ‘happy’ with the indy cars that come in that set – I’m not a huge indy fan myself and like the more classic cars like the afx corvettes and gts, etc. … still have to think about this a lot since it relies heavily on autoworld stuff, which may end up being subpar quality?… but at sub 400 prices for 4 lanes with actually decent looking cars sounds better than 600-700 for stuff built around ugly super international with tons of tiny curves in the middle?…. the autoworld victory 400 is priced at around 379 but then you end up with autoworld chasis instead of mega g+ stuff… and a wireles controller that may or may not have sync issues with 100% autoworld track…. hmm….

$578.81 at rcsuperstore.com vs 666.40 at afxracing.com counting shipping with the same 15 items… international set, 6 of the pair of 15 inch straights (12 total), 100 pack of the track clips, race barrier, yellow gt triple stripe, 2 of the 6 foot 120 ohm controllers, blue mustang boss, orange corvette, and liquid red fort gt. Still debating with myself if that’s enough or not to start out with. Going to try to use the 12 straights to do the ‘international 39’ layout https://web.archive.org/…/Layout/4×8/International-39.gif I’m still debating with myself if this is too much to start out with, but my wife says straights are needed for speed… Video over at https://youtu.be/MvVpnH6nCm8 seems to be the only video I’ve found on youtube with that layout. In the video he didn’t have all the straights so only did 2 lanes… Got a HO scale train set up next to this where it’ll go after I buy another piece of plywood, and have enough cash together to purchase (waiting on withdrawal from Entropia Universe to fund this which takes up to 50 business days or so – sold my 2 shops in FOMA in there for 150 more than I bought em, and also sold a rcouple of rare pets – the boxer and oratan axe for a bit more than I purchased them for a few years ago last year, so figure it’s time to get money out of the virtual world hobby and in to real hobby like this that I can share more with my kiddo one one one )… figure we only need 2 of the 6 foot controllers since only me and my daughter will be racing mostly. The other 2 lanes will be for visitors. Thinking about raising one side a bit to sneak a HO scale train under it or beside it but we’ll see… flat may be better for speed and fewer crashes? (I think I agree with my wife that wireless controllers could be fluky if bluetooth syncing is an issue which the tinkertoy video seems to indicate indirectly) (still very much debating with myself if the extra cars are worth it at cost over 30 each but that price seems to be less than from afxracing itself and walmart prices so I guess it is market value for the new cars… really wish they had an afx car in green or something. Orange is ok but is very similar to red for those of us with slight color blindness… primary colors of red, yellow, blue is ok, but need something else for that 4th lane option other than the regular formula stuff)… are the cars in the international faster than the mustang, etc. or is it all comparable when they all have the mega g+ chasis? Seems like formula 1 may have slightly better air resistance physical properties, but cannot tell if that’d make much of a difference? the free shipping on over 100 seems to make a big dent in price comparisons. Still very much debating if this is all worth it, but think it might be fun…. we’ll see. Not sure if this will be bought eventually later this year or it’ll wait… or be replaced with something like an air hockey table?!?…

prices at walmart are not much better than afx racing… on some items it may be a little difference, but still around 330 for the international set vs 248 over at rc racing, at least for now… may change around black friday?

If you own the Tomy AFX Super International Racing Set and are thinking about building a permanent HO race track this is an inexpensive layout to construct. Just add a dozen 15″ straights and you’ll have an excellent raceway. The circuit is comprised of three fast straights with a technically challenging infield section.

The table below lists the Tomy AFX track sections required to build the International 39 raceway:

4×8 – four lanes afx

4′ × 8′ Raceways – 4-Lane

This is the most popular size HO raceway. Built using a single 4×8 foot sheet of plywood with a simple 1×4 inch wooden frame, this size table provides a good platform for many challenging 2- and 4-lane raceways. See the Tables section for detailed construction information.

Scenic Hills 33
This first layout provides a 4-lane layout that fits on a single 4×8 foot plywood table. The overpass section allows for equal lap lengths of 33.50 feet per lane.

This particular layout makes a good race track for scenic landscaping. See the Table construction section of this web site for the plans to build this table. See also the Landscaping section for more information about this layout.

This circuit provides a fast 33.50 foot lap length with four fast straight sections and a challenging 6″ hairpin section. The center area on the table provides enough room to create a realistic pit row and garage complex.

(16) – 12″ Radius 1/8 Turns(20) – 9″ Radius 1/8 Turns (4)  – 6″ Radius 1/8 Turns
A longer 4×12 foot version of this raceway can also be built using the Random Lake 48 track plans shown later on this page.

A faster banked version of this raceway is also possible using the Elm Grove 32 track plan.
Ravinia 35
The layout illustrated below fits on a single 4 × 8 foot table and provides a lap length of 35 feet per lane. The infield section is fast and provides a challenging technical section. See the Construction section for step-by-step instructions for building this raceway.
Ravinia 35 Raceway

Cars travel counter-clockwise on the outer portion of the track. The main straight leads into a 90 degree right-hand turn followed by a 225 degree hairpin section. Upon exiting the hairpin the cars must negotiate a pair of 45 degree left-hand turns before accelerating down the infield straight.

A decreasing radius turn at the end of the infield straight feeds onto a short chute followed by a sweeping carousel turn before exiting out and onto the back straight. A pair of 90 degree left-hand turns punctuated with a medium-speed straight leads back onto the main straight again.

This particular layout incorporates many of the turn styles as described in the Design section, while still fitting on a single 4×8 foot table. This 4×8 foot raceway is my favorite layout for a smaller, flat racetrack. See the Scenic Hills 33 above for my choice of elevated 4×8 foot raceways suitable for authentic landscaping.

The table below lists the Tomy AFX track sections required to build the Ravinia 33 raceway:
(28) – 15″ Straights (6)  – 9″ Straights (8)  – 6″ Straights (2)  – 3″ Straights
 (1)  – 15″ Radius 1/8 Turn(18) – 12″ Radius 1/8 Turns(23) – 9″ Radius 1/8 Turns (6)  – 6″ Radius 1/8 Turns
This design is ideal for modern Tomy AFX slot cars as well as older Model Motoring Thunderjets. If you’re looking for a race track design that will be both challenging and still fit on a smaller 4×8 foot table this is a great raceway to build.

International 39
This next track layout also fits on a single 4×8 foot table and uses the Tomy AFX Super International Racing Set in addition to one dozen 15″ straight track sections. This layout makes use of every track section contained in the Super International. This design packs a 39 foot lap length on to a simple 4×8 foot table.

 (1)  – 15″ Radius 1/8 Turn (6)  – 12″ Radius 1/8 Turns (9)  – 9″ Radius 1/8 Turns(12) – 9″ Radius 1/4 Turns(28) – 6″ Radius 1/8 Turns
(2) – 15″ Power Tracks(2) – 22 VDC Power Packs(4) – Tomy AFX Hand Controls
Elm Grove 32
This 4×8 foot raceway is very similar to the Scenic Hills 33 described above. However, this plan utilizes Tomy’s new 18″ radius turn, an increasing/decreasing radius hairpin turn at the end of the long straight and also provides for an optional banked turn.

Like the Scenic Hills 33, this track is also great for Landscaping

This challenging 4-lane racing circuit has even lap lengths of 32.48 feet for all four lanes and can be built on a single 4×8 foot table using the following Tomy AFX track sections:
(28) – 15″ Straights (4)  – 9″ Straights (6)  – 6″ Straights
 (2)  – 18″ Radius 1/8 Turns (7)  – 15″ Radius 1/8 Turns(14) – 12″ Radius 1/8 Turns(11) – 9″ Radius 1/8 Turns (2)  – 6″ Radius 1/8 Turns
HO Challenge
This next track layout was designed for the now-defunct HO DL Challenge. This racing series allowed you to compete with other HO Slot Car racers from around the world using this standard track configuration.

Because the track layout remained the same for all racers, lap times could simply be compared to see who the World’s Fastest HO Slot Car Racers really were.

This challenging 4-lane racing circuit has a lap length of 32.64 feet and can be built on a single 4×8 foot table using the Tomy AFX Super International Racing Set in addition to these extra track sections:
 (4)  – 15″ Straights(12) – 9″ Straights
(16) – 12″ Radius 1/8 Turns
(2) – 15″ Power Tracks(2) – 22 VDC Power Packs
If you have ever wondered about your driving skills or your ability to prepare fast HO Slot Cars this is a good means of testing your abilities against other HO racers from around the world.

Whitefish Bay 33
This next track fits on a single 4 × 8 foot table. It has a 33 foot lap length comprised of 4 lanes. This track was originally built using Tyco/Mattel slot car track sections, but could have just as easily be made using Tomy AFX track instead.

The table below lists the Tyco/Mattel slot car track sections required to build the Whitefish Bay 33 raceway:
(20) – 15″ Straights(20) – 9″ Straights (6)  – 6″ Straights
(14) – 12″ Radius 1/8 Turns (4)  – 9″ Radius 1/8 Turns(12) – 9″ Radius 1/4 Turns (7)  – 6″ Radius 1/4 Turns
Whitefish Bay 43
This next racing layout is a variation on the original Whitefish Bay 33 described above that provides a longer lap length of 43 feet with an infield comprised of two additional chicane sections. In my opinion this would be a better layout for older Aurora ThunderJets and A/FX slot cars due to its increased lap length and twisty infield section.

(21) – 12″ Radius 1/8 Turns(36) – 9″ Radius 1/8 Turns(15) – 6″ Radius 1/8 Turns
The Whitefish Bay 43 is also well suited to computerized lap counting and timing. The open area in the lower left-hand corner of the diagram above provides space for a computer display monitor. The 6″ straight sections at the center of the straight on the left side is an ideal location for a dead track section or photo-cells.

The track is designed so that the cars circulate in a counter-clockwise direction. With the start/finish line along the left edge of the table, drivers can glance up at the computer scoring screen as the cars pass over the lap counter and head into the double apex turn.

4′ × 8′ Raceways – 4-Lane
from internet archive of dead website: https://web.archive.org/web/20190110180326/http://www.hoslotcarracing.com/

Tomy AFX 4-Way Challenge
https://web.archive.org/web/20190110180326/http://www.hoslotcarracing.com/ – original posted at

Purchasing a Tomy AFX Super International along with a 4-Way Split will not only give you the extra 12″ radius turn sections most track designs require, but will also provide you with a total of four (4) 22 VDC power packs, enough to power each lane individually. You’ll also get four (4) additional Super G-Plus cars. The 4-Way Split set includes GT Prototype sportscars as raced at Le Mans.

The first layout illustrated here is the Tomy AFX 4-Way Challenge. It combines the AFX Super International Challenge and 4-Way Split race sets described above to create a challenging 4-lane raceway with a lap length of just under 38 feet per lane.

This entire raceway fits on a single 4×8 foot table and can be built using only those track sections included in the two race sets. This race track makes extensive use of 12″ radius turns to create a fast raceway.

This race track incorporates a technically challenging infield section to test both driving skills and chassis setup. Combining the International Challenge and 4-Way Split race sets provides a convenient and cost effective means of creating an interesting 4-lane raceway in a minimum of space.

See the Tables section for detailed instructions on building a 4×8 foot table suitable for mounting this race track. The total cost, including the two race sets and table supplies should be under $350.00, making this a great weekend project. See the Construction section for detailed photographs of the table building process.

Happy Browsing. Also have a very happy and prosperous new year!

Items Up in the apartment (Alpha West, Floor 11, Apartment F) or in display areas of the shop that are not listed with markup can be moved to the shop and priced to sell upon private message request. Most of the mannequin pads are up in the apartment equipped with crafted armor. Some of the pads are in storage and get swapped out with other pads in the apartment from time to time.

The above items are either in Foma Shop 21, Foma Shop 22, or are up in the business office in Alpha West, Floor 11, Apartment F.

All items in the shop marked with markup are for sale, of course. Items in the apartment may potentially be for sale if they are tradeable. If interested in something in the apartment or shops that has no markup listed shoot me a Private Message here on the forum with your offer and I’ll see what I can do for you.

Some items like the St. Patrick’s day flag, Christmas bags, and a few other odds and ends up in the apartment are not tradeable, but I have them out up there from time to time since they are festive.

Other items than in the above list may be available in the shop at any time as things are swapped out from time to time.
For most up-to-date idea of what’s in the shops please feel free to visit the shops in game! :)

(at the end of this thread you may also find a posting with a fairly updated listing of what’s available from time to time)

WE’VE NOW EXPANDED TO INCLUDE BOTH FOMA SHOP 21 & 22!

Hot

Hot is a photo of some trees in a landscape with blue sky and yellow grass in the foreground.  This image was shot on a hot summer day many years ago when I used to wander aorund on lunch breaks shooting digital photos.  I like this image because it seems to be a summer theme.  When I see it it reminds me of those days when fall is coming and the the sweltering sun is pounding down on us… the times when a gentle breeze may seem like a comforting touch from God himself.

This photo was shot in what used to be a large field type area with trees nearby at the Quarterdeck Building in Columbia, Missouri. I worked in that location for nearly 14 years when I worked for the University of Missouri. A lot of recent construction in the area has massively removed this type of view of nature from this area. In the woods on the other side of the building from where this was shot an ancient deer stand can be found if you look close enough for it. It is kind of scary that deer hunters used to come here since the location is almost on top of the main shoulder in the main highway between Columbia and Jefferson City.

Digital download dimensions on Art Station:

Hot is available for purchase on Art Station!

Please note that today, 10/13/2020 pricing on Hot has bee massively reduced on Art Station!

Tree Study

Tree Study is a small zip file of 350 jpg files that are reference photos of trees.

Several of the photos are scrolling ‘close up’ panoramas of the tree trunk texture surface shot close to the base of the tree trunk, with aim of camera following trunk up from the ground level, and then angled to capture base shape of the branches, etc. higher up.  Some of the other photos are simply texture photos of the same type angle simply shot one after the other in a sort of hand done burst type of photo.

These photos were shot in a local park. There’s about 3 trees being photographed here. There’s also one file that is a ‘close up’ of grass in the same are these trees were located.

These are mainly reference photos to capture the basic texture of the tree trunk’s bark and basic shape of the tree and branches.

Since there are some panoramic shots in here dimensions of each image vary widely.  On one extreme we have some dimensons so wide as 912 x 17534 and 1577 x 10147, 1382 x 11574 etc. Most of the simple one shot images are 4032 x 1960 or 1960 x 4032.

All of these were shot by hand, so unfortunately no aid was used to keep camera lens equidistant from the texture between each image. I did try to be steady, but that doesn’t always work in this type of random enironmental photography.  In the future if I try to do more studies like this I plan to use some a small toy truck to act as a dolly to keep the camera’s angle more steadily equidistant from the texure being shot.

A few keywords related to these images are bark, tree, trees, wood, wooden, woods, forest, brown, tan, grey, black, washed out, rustic, rural, nature, natural, grain, pattern, park, bumpmap, line, contrast, summer, highlight, organic, squiggly, zigzag, zig-zag, outdoor, outdoors, log, logs edge, edges, outdoors, outside, branch, plants, enviornment, background, texture, tree bark, shape, reference, study, lumber, plank, yard, suburb, contrast, pattern, panoramic, close up, kindling, woodworking, firewood, tree hugger, moss, old, aged, base, trunk, roots, ground.
