I may start blogging here more again.

It’s been a while since I did too many blog entries here. We are now in to the third trimester. Things are so exiting. Baby is kicking a lot every day now.

Work’s been a bit crazy since January when the replists were re-split so I had to work a different part of the alphabet than before January, but I’m almost getting it back under control in the new alpha at the level it was right before the split in January.

It’s looking like with the baby coming we’ll probably be moving back in with Mom and Dad for a while til we get on our feet financially and in a few other ways (being new parents is hard work). Financially it’s a bit of a struggle when we were trying to figure out the budget the other day since Tekla plans on being a stay at home mom for the most part, at least during the week. Gameplan is to have her work during weekends and me work during the week, so maybe, possibly, we might be able to avoid having to get a sitter or daycare… Moving in with Mom and Dad will help with that a bit, but I’m not sure how much yet since they have their own crazy work schedules, etc.

As far as the pregnancy goes we have been doing Lamaze classes the last few weeks and have learned a lot. A nice couple of apps to have to help with ‘focal point’ techniques are N7player for playing mp3 music and Quickpic for creating slideshows with photos. Also there’s the Stay Awake app that works to keep the screen on for an extended period of time so that slideshows are a possibility that won’t turn off after a few minutes… and it’s little brother, Screen off and Lock app to shut off the screen and wifi when you are ready to shut off that nice little slideshow for a while.

Since we are ‘downsizing’ by moving in with them a lot of things will be going in to a storage unit for a while. I probably won’t have much time to do a lot of art, but will still do some things from time to time. Besides photography, color pencil will probably be the media of choice for a while since there’s not a lot of mess involved with it or toxic fumes, etc. Just have to keep the pencils in baby-proof containers…

I’m starting to exercise more regularly when not hauling stuff to the storage unit. I’m going to try to start getting up at 5:00 am every morning again to do a morning routine. Finding time to do evening routines is not easy, but I might try to work those in from time to time too.

I’ve allowed myself to become caffeine addicted a bit. I was starting to get up to 4-5 cups of coffee a day at work. It’s hard to avoid there since it’s available freely in our department and they keep a pot going all day long. This last week I limited myself to a maximum of 4 cups a day. Next week I plan to limit myself to max of 3 cups a day… the next week after that go to a max of 2 cups a day… then the week after that 1 cup a day, and hopefully after that eliminate it all together, or if that’s too extreme, maybe go to max of one every other day or something til I can get to the point that I don’t need it any more.

21st evening of the 1000 day challenge

Well, it’s the 21st evening of the 1000 day challenge. I just completed a pretty hard power 90 routine using the bungee cords as bands. They are very nice for working out because you can control the tension much more than with weights… if it’s not enough weight, pull tighter.. if too much, ease up. It doesn’t make it any easier… if anything, it makes it harder on some of the exercises…

Nice workout.

It’s a little over a week til day 30 since I started this 1000 day thing (quite a while after that if you count when I originally started the Power 90 before I had the week or two off to heal up from the knife injury… started the 1000 day counter after I could workout again because I am after long term goals, not short term goals, and some little incident like that shouldn’t get in the way of goals, but if I was just strictly going for 90 days of power 90 it would have messed with the goal a lot since 3 months is really not a heck of a long term thing, especially if you have to be down and out at least a week due to injury).

I plan to take it up a notch or two after day thirty and really get in to being strict with doing two workouts a day, at least 5 days a week. Since there’s so many various videos online and that we have in our dvd/vhs collection, I might still occasionally link to the video I’m doing that day, but other times, maybe just do a short quick one liner here and there. I’m probably going to switch it up a little here and there… I do plan on doing 2 workouts a day, but one day it may be something super hardcore, and others maybe something light and easy. I am still listing stuff in the diet and exercise workout video online link as I come across it (just added a few more links in there today)… It’s amazing how many various videos there are out here in this wild internet.

If you haven’t been following this blog long…

Here’s where you can find out what this 1000 day thing is all about… and you can follow it here. Basically, it’s a series of 30 day challenges which snowball in to one another… I’ll continue with the first 30 day challenge – working out once a day at least 6 days a week in to the second month when I make the next big 30 day challenge to work out a second time during the day in addition to the first time I’ll already be doing it.. and just slowly add in more and more good habits, adding one new ‘big goal’ habit per month… 33 months is approximately 990 days give or take since there’s roughly 30 days in a month most months… so I just rounded it up to 1000 days for easy counting reasons. Also, I did that so that I have reachable goals that are long term, but not super long term… basically it’s three and a third years… that should be enough time to reach a secret goal that’s sort of hidden in the first two month’s challenges and why they are the first two month’s challenges, and that is to get to my recommended bmi weight by the end of the 1000 days. It’s really sort of a long term plan to get healthy, and improve my life in various ways that I should be doing anyways, but have not the last few years for various reasons… laziness, addiction to snack foods, addictions to soda, addictions to tv, addictions to video games, etc. It’s all about flipping everything around to get myself in to habits/addictions for healthy things instead of the opposite of healthy things. It is about setting reachable and obtainable long term and short term goals and actually achieving them one by one to drastically change my life for the better – something I should have done a long time ago, but couldn’t for various reasons up til recently.

Turbo Tapping – Stress Relief – Acupunture without needles…

8/17/2012 update… link below doesn’t work any more… Try this instead:

Turbo Tapping is an interesting form of stress relief/self hypnosis that I find useful on occassion. It seems sort of silly, but it really does work. I mainly use it to relieve pain in my fingers and hands after typing all week long at work. I do a lot of database stuff at work, so my hands are find on Monday, but by Thursday or Friday, it feels like my fingers are nothing but stubs of pain that are there to do nothing but drive me crazy. It’s pretty sad really, especially since the painful fingers make me not want to do a lot of artwork since drawing, computer animation, painting, and especially sculpture usually requires a lot of work with the hands.

You can read about Turbo Tapping over at http://www.emofree.com/articles/turbo-tapping.htm That article talks about how to overcome addiction with Turbo Tapping. I’ve tried that before, but have found it not to be too effective in that area of my own life, but maybe it’ll work for you. However, I do find that it is a bit of a stress relief and pain relief.

If you choose not to get the free manual over there, like I did about a year or two ago when I first started this stuff, the process is not too hard… it involves tapping at an area on your or another person’s body very lightly and repeatedly, sort of to get an effect like accupuncture, but without the needles… the primary areas, if I remember correctly, listed in the manual are the on the eyebrow – near where it connects to the nose, on the eybrow, near the other end of the eye, just under the eye, just under the nose, just under the lips on the chin, in the middle of the breast plate area, right under the armpit at the edge where it connects to the chest, thumb in the area between the knuckle and the rest of the hand on the side furthest from the other fingers, on the index finger in the same location – just below the knucle and on the side closest to the thumb, middle finger in the same place, then skip the last two fingers and go to the flabby part of the hand on the side where the pinky finger is that’s located half way between the pinky and the wrist on the side opposite from the thumb… and finally don’t tap, but gently rub the area on the top of the hand between the index finger and the ring finger up and down from almost back to the wrist, up to in between those two fingers… reading the manual can get you more info on how to do it all, but that’s the basics of it, or at least the main areas I focus on.

The manual also says that you only need to do one side instead of both since the chi flows even on both sides of the body or something, but I find that after doing the rubbing on the top of the hands, it’s sort of nice to start the whole process over, and this time do the oppossite side – focusing on the eyebrows and hand that you didn’t do the first time, etc.

Also, before you start, if I remember correctly, the manual talked about a “sore spot” that is a tender area on the breast, just about an inch or so above the nipple that you can rub back and forth to get this all started. That and the area on the hand in between ring finger and middle finger are sort of similar locations that you can rub both before and after doing a session to sort of get the blood flowing, or the chi running or whatever the heck you want to call it. Just be careful to avoid weird looks by doing this in private instead of out in the public, lol.
